Terrorists executed a drone strike on a police station located in Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, marking the fifth such incident targeting the same facility within a month, as reported by police on Sunday. The assailants released munitions on the Miryan police station in the Bannu district on Saturday.
According to police reports, the attack resulted in no injuries to the personnel on duty, nor did it inflict any damage to the structure.
Authorities noted that attempts to intercept the high-altitude drone were unsuccessful.
This incident represents the fifth drone attack on the same police station within a month, as stated by law enforcement.
Officials characterized the frequency of these drone strikes as indicative of terrorists increasingly utilizing “advanced quadcopter technology” in the troubled area adjacent to Afghanistan. A thorough search operation is currently in progress, and security measures have been significantly enhanced throughout Bannu.
The Bannu incident follows a separate gun assault on the Serai Gambila police station in the Lakki Marwat district late Friday night. Around a dozen armed militants encircled the police station before initiating an attack with both light and heavy weaponry. However, fierce gunfire from the police successfully repelled the assailants, who subsequently retreated. There were no reported casualties.
The Serai Gambila police station, located along the Peshawar-Karachi Highway near the Gambila river, has previously been targeted multiple times by terrorists.
In the past year, numerous attacks throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have involved remotely operated drones deploying explosives. The military has linked these tactics to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
