Authorities in Bangladesh have apprehended five suspects, including the primary accused, in relation to the rape of a woman at her residence in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. The Superintendent of Police, Nazir Ahmed Khan, confirmed the arrests on Sunday morning, as reported by The Dhaka Tribune.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night when the accused, Fazor Ali, 38, unlawfully entered the victim’s home by forcefully breaking down the door and assaulted her. The identity of the victim has been withheld due to the sensitive nature of the crime.
The survivor lodged a complaint at the Muradnagar police station on Friday afternoon. By 5 am local time on Sunday, Fazor Ali was apprehended in the Sayedabad area of Dhaka and subsequently transported back to Comilla for legal proceedings, according to The Dhaka Tribune.
The other four individuals implicated in the case—Md Sumon, Ramzan Ali, Md Arif, and Md Anik—were arrested for recording the assault, which was later disseminated online. Local reporters were informed by the police that the survivor had been staying at her father’s house with her children for the past 15 days.
Around 10 pm on Thursday, Fazor arrived at the residence and insisted that she let him in. Upon her refusal, he forcibly entered and raped her. Neighbors reported to the police that they heard loud commotions from the house that night and rushed over, only to find the door broken.
Upon discovering that the woman had been assaulted, they confronted Fazor Ali and took him to a hospital. However, he managed to escape later. Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan stated that the police conducted overnight operations in the vicinity, resulting in the arrest of four individuals involved in recording and distributing the video. Fazor Ali was ultimately located early Sunday in Dhaka. “All five are in custody, and further legal actions are in progress,” the police official asserted.
