Trump has once more supported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the corruption allegations against him as a “political witch hunt” and calling for the cessation of his trial.
US President Donald Trump has reiterated his support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently undergoing a corruption trial.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump referred to the allegations against the Israeli prime minister as “a political witch hunt.”
Trump also condemned the prosecutors for what he termed a “terrible trial” against Netanyahu, stating, “Let Bibi go.” It is worth noting that “Bibi” is a nickname for Netanyahu.
“He is a war hero and a prime minister who has done an excellent job collaborating with the United States to achieve significant success in neutralizing the perilous nuclear threat posed by Iran,” Trump expressed on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“How can it be that the prime minister of Israel is compelled to spend all day in a courtroom, over trivial matters (cigars, Bugs Bunny doll, etc.)? This is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very much akin to the witch hunt that I was subjected to.
“This mockery of ‘justice’ will disrupt negotiations with both Iran and Hamas. In other words, what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu is INSANITY.
“The United States of America allocates billions of dollars annually—far exceeding the support given to any other nation—to protect and assist Israel. We will not tolerate this.
“We recently achieved a significant victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu leading the way—and this severely undermines our success. LET BIBI GO, HE HAS A MAJOR ROLE TO FULFILL!” Trump concluded.
This is not the first occasion on which Trump has voiced his opposition to Netanyahu’s trial. Last week, he made comparable remarks following the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
What are the allegations against Netanyahu?
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is confronted with multiple corruption allegations, initially filed in 2019, which include bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Case 1000: Netanyahu and his spouse, Sara, face allegations of receiving extravagant gifts valued at approximately $192,000 from business figures in return for political favors.
Case 2000: Netanyahu is charged with breach of trust for purportedly negotiating an arrangement with newspaper proprietor Arnon Moses for favorable media coverage aimed at undermining his political opponent, Israel Hayom.
Case 4000: Netanyahu is accused of providing regulatory and financial advantages to the Israeli telecommunications firm Bezeq in exchange for favorable coverage of himself and his wife on a news platform overseen by the company’s former chairman.
Netanyahu refutes all accusations and asserts that the claims are part of a “witch hunt” directed against him.
