As reported by Xinhua News Agency, Zhang Xiaogang, the spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, made this statement during a press conference, addressing inquiries about the future of military relations between the two nations.
Zhang noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and India. He emphasized that both countries, as ancient civilizations and significant developing nations, are currently at a crucial phase of modernization and play vital roles within the Global South.
“Partnerships that foster mutual success align with the fundamental interests of both nations and their peoples,” Zhang was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
He indicated that the Chinese military is ready to work alongside India to implement the key agreements established between the two countries.
The spokesperson underscored the necessity of improving communication and building strategic trust, maintaining peace and stability in border areas, strengthening military relations, and promoting regional and global peace.
Relations between India and China have been notably tense following the deadly clashes in Galwan Valley in June 2020.
Since then, both nations have completed the disengagement process, finalizing an agreement for the withdrawal of troops from Depsang and Demchok, the last two remaining points of contention in eastern Ladakh.
Just two days after the agreement was reached, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in discussions in Kazan on October 23, during which they agreed to reinstate various dialogue mechanisms.
India has reiterated that its relationship with China cannot normalize until peace is restored in the border regions.
