The President of the United States has charged the Iranian-supported militia with conducting a persistent campaign characterized by piracy, violence, and terrorism targeting American vessels, as well as other ships, aircraft, and drones. Additionally, he criticized his predecessor, referring to Joe Biden as “weak” for allowing the Houthis to operate without restraint.
On Saturday, March 15, U.S. President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social media platform that he has directed the U.S. military to initiate “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The President accused the Iranian-supported militia of conducting “an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism” targeting American and other vessels, aircraft, and drones.
He further criticized his predecessor, whom he referred to as “weak” Joe Biden, for allowing the “unrestrained” Houthis to persist.
“It has been over a year since a U.S.-flagged commercial vessel safely navigated through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden. The last American warship to traverse the Red Sea, four months ago, faced over a dozen attacks from the Houthis. Backed by Iran, these Houthi militants have launched missiles at U.S. aircraft and targeted our troops and allies. These continuous assaults have inflicted billions of dollars in losses on the U.S. and global economy while endangering innocent lives,” Trump stated.
“The Houthi assaults on American vessels will not be tolerated. We will employ overwhelming lethal force until our objectives are met. The Houthis have obstructed shipping in one of the world’s most vital waterways, halting significant portions of global commerce and undermining the fundamental principle of freedom of navigation essential for international trade,” he continued.
“Our courageous servicemen and women are currently executing aerial strikes on the terrorists’ bases, leadership, and missile defense systems to safeguard American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore navigational freedom. No terrorist organization will prevent American commercial and naval vessels from navigating the world’s waterways freely,” he added.
Addressing the Houthi fighters directly, Trump declared, “YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST CEASE IMMEDIATELY. IF THEY DO NOT, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A RECKONING LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER WITNESSED BEFORE!”
In a message directed at Iran, the US leader stated, “To Iran: Your support for the Houthi terrorists must cease IMMEDIATELY! Do NOT pose threats to the American people or their President, who has secured one of the largest mandates in presidential history, nor to global shipping routes. Should you choose to do so, BE WARNED, as America will hold you entirely responsible, and our response will not be lenient!”
