US President Donald Trump has expressed his belief that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, will make a visit to the United States in the near future, although he did not specify a timeline for this trip.
The president shared these thoughts while engaging with reporters aboard Air Force One, emphasizing that a new trade agreement between the United States and China “is possible.”
“We will ultimately have President Xi and all other leaders visiting the US,” Trump stated, while also mentioning the potential for visits from various global leaders.
These comments come in the wake of Trump’s recent announcement of a 10 percent tariff on all Chinese imports, which led to retaliatory tariffs from Beijing and a dispute filed against the United States with the World Trade Organization.
Xi’s last visit to the United States occurred in 2023, marking his fifth trip as president, during which he met with former President Joe Biden at a summit that resulted in agreements to restore military communications and address fentanyl production.
Additionally, Trump reportedly had a conversation with President Xi on his inauguration day, January 20, during which they discussed topics such as TikTok, trade relations, and Taiwan.
