Islamabad: On Wednesday, a high court in Pakistan granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the second Toshakhana case.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) concluded the hearing and approved Khan’s bail application, contingent upon the submission of two bonds, each amounting to PKR 1 million. Khan, aged 72, has been incarcerated since his arrest on August 5, 2023, and it remains uncertain whether he will be released immediately.
Earlier on Thursday, a court in Pakistan denied acquittal requests from Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana II case. This case, also referred to as Toshakhana 2.0, involves allegations that Khan and his wife inflicted financial losses on the national treasury by retaining state gifts at reduced prices, contrary to established regulations.
The judge instructed the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to appear before the trial court following his bail, cautioning that the bail could be revoked should he fail to comply with court directives.
Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were apprehended in this case on July 13, shortly after their acquittal in the Iddat case on the same day. Bibi was granted bail by the IHC on October 24 and subsequently released from custody.
Since his government was ousted through a no-confidence motion in 2022, Khan has faced numerous legal challenges.
