Republican Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 United States presidential election following projections from various American media outlets indicating that he has triumphed over his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
Addressing an enthusiastic audience at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida, Trump stated, “America has bestowed upon us an extraordinary and robust mandate.” He also commended his running mate, JD Vance, and his Indian-American spouse, Usha Chilukuri Vance.
“I wish to be the first to extend my congratulations to Vice President-elect JD Vance, as I can now officially say. And to his remarkable and lovely wife, Usha Vance,” he remarked.
Both Vance and his wife were present on stage alongside Trump’s spouse, Melania Trump.
Trump further described JD Vance, aged 40, as a “spirited individual.”
Usha Vance hails from Vadluru, a serene village in Andhra Pradesh, and if Trump secures the presidency again, she will become the Second Lady of the United States, marking a historic moment as the first individual of non-white descent to hold this position. The couple met at Yale Law School and married in 2014, and they are parents to three children.
“We have made history for a reason tonight, and that reason is that we have surmounted challenges that many deemed insurmountable,” Trump asserted. “This is a political victory unlike any our nation has ever witnessed.”
In his victory address, he also expressed gratitude to Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who has invested significantly in supporting the Republican candidate since his endorsement in July.
A new luminary has emerged: “Elon, a star is born,” stated Trump. “He is an extraordinary individual.”
Previously, Trump had committed to establishing the United States as the “bitcoin and cryptocurrency capital of the world” and proposed appointing Musk to oversee a comprehensive audit of government expenditures.
Donald Trump vs. Kamala Harris
Currently, Donald Trump is projected to secure 267 electoral college votes, just three votes shy of the crucial 270 needed for victory. His opponent, the incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, is lagging behind with 214 votes.
A significant contributor to Trump’s potential success has been the Republican dominance in seven pivotal swing states. In contrast to the 2020 elections, where Trump faced a 6-1 disadvantage against Democrats, this year these states have shifted to a 7-0 lead for the Republicans.
Trump has already claimed victory in three swing states—Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina—and is currently ahead in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada.
Should U.S. voters opt for Trump, who is notable for being the only president impeached twice and the first former president to face criminal conviction, he would achieve the distinction of being the first president in over a century to serve non-consecutive terms.
