1. As the final week of the US presidential election campaign commences, there are only seven days remaining. On Sunday, Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden, concluding with an 80-minute speech in which he targeted his opponents, condemned immigrants, and discussed the prospect of mass deportation. The event, featuring the Republican nominee, also included an opening act characterized by racist slurs, offensive comments, and hostility.
Participants, ranging from donors to MAGA-affiliated politicians and entertainers, all communicated in a similarly crude and vulgar manner.
Here’s what happened at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
Puerto Rico, a ‘floating island of garbage”
The rally at Madison Square Garden commenced with Tony Hinchcliffe, a stand-up comedian and podcast host, who made derogatory remarks about Puerto Rico. He stated, “I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” His performance also featured vulgar and racist comments directed at Latinos, Jews, and Black individuals, all of whom are significant voter groups in the upcoming election on November 5.
This remark may have been influenced by Trump, who recently referred to the United States as “a garbage can for the world” while criticizing illegal immigration.
Hinchcliffe’s joke faced immediate backlash from Harris’ campaign, which is vying for support from Puerto Rican communities in Pennsylvania and other pivotal states. Shortly after Hinchcliffe’s performance, Puerto Rican music icon Bad Bunny expressed his support for Harris.
Additionally, the comedian made disparaging comments about Latinos, stating, “These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do.”
