The leader of Japan’s Nihon Hidankyo stated on Friday, September 11, 2024, that the organization’s receipt of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize would significantly enhance its campaign to prove the feasibility of nuclear disarmament.
“This recognition would serve as a powerful message to the global community that the elimination of nuclear weapons is attainable,” remarked Toshiyuki Mimaki, head of Nihon Hidankyo, during a press conference held in Hiroshima, the location of the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945, during World War II.
“It is imperative that nuclear weapons are completely abolished,” he asserted.
Mr. Mimaki also conveyed his astonishment at receiving the award for showcasing through personal testimonies the necessity of never utilizing nuclear weapons again.
“I never imagined this could occur,” he stated.
