Israel-Iran conflict live updates: On Sunday, Israel intensified its bombardment of Hezbollah’s “military sites” throughout Beirut and its southern suburbs, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, which served as a catalyst for the ongoing conflict. According to Reuters, military analysts indicated that the strikes on Sunday represented the most significant assault by Israel on Beirut to date, with visible explosions occurring several kilometers away.
The Israeli Air Force announced that it had “carried out a series of targeted strikes on various weapons storage facilities and terrorist infrastructure associated with the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Beirut region.”
The exchange of fire across the border continued to escalate, with Hezbollah launching rocket attacks on the Israeli port city of Haifa, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and numerous injuries.
In related news, a deputy confirmed that the commander of Iran’s Quds Force is in stable health.
Hamas commended Hezbollah for its recent rocket strikes on northern Israel, labeling the October 7 attack on Israel as “glorious” and asserting that it “shattered the illusions the enemy had created for itself, convincing the world and the region of its supposed superiority and capabilities.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged victory, stating that his country’s military has “completely transformed reality” in the year since the conflict began.
Filippo Grandi, the United Nations’ refugee chief, remarked that Israel’s strikes on Lebanon contravened international humanitarian law by targeting civilian infrastructure and resulting in civilian casualties. He urged all parties to “cease this carnage occurring in both Gaza and Lebanon today.”
