A consultant affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has succumbed to injuries sustained during an alleged Israeli airstrike on Damascus, Syria, on Monday, as reported by Iran’s Student News Network.
The individual has been identified as Majid Divani, although further details have not been disclosed.
This incident appears to coincide with reports from Syrian state media, which indicated on Tuesday that three civilians lost their lives and nine others were injured due to an Israeli airstrike in the Syrian capital. Additionally, state media noted that Syrian air defenses successfully intercepted “hostile targets” over Damascus on three separate occasions in one night, following a series of explosions heard throughout the city.
When approached for comment regarding the reported attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated on Tuesday that it refrains from addressing foreign media reports.
Since the onset of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted airstrikes within Syria, primarily aimed at thwarting the transfer of weapons to the Iran-backed Hezbollah and preventing Iranian fighters from establishing a presence near Israel’s borders.
In light of the brutal massacre perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and 251 kidnappings in Israel, Israel has intensified its operations against Iranian-backed terrorist targets in Syria, including strikes on Syrian army air defenses and various Syrian military forces.
