Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni officially concluded the G7 Summit in the Apulia region of southern Italy on Saturday. She mentioned her discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they explored ways to enhance the bilateral strategic partnership.
Italy, as the current president of the Group of Seven industrialized nations, welcomed leaders from the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and the European Union (EU).
In addition to the G7 participants, Meloni also welcomed representatives from 11 countries from the Global South, including India. Prime Minister Modi engaged in talks with Meloni on Friday evening, towards the end of his visit to participate in the Outreach session and conduct several bilateral meetings.
During her media briefing on Saturday, Meloni stated, “With Mr. Modi, we discussed ways to strengthen our strategic partnership that began in 2022.”
Highlighting key points from the G7 discussions, Meloni emphasized the delegates’ commitment to the Indo-Pacific region as a “clear message to China.”
“We are willing to engage in dialogue, but it is essential that our companies have the opportunity to compete fairly in a free and open market,” she added.
