A 28-year-old individual, Yuvraj Goyal, was fatally shot in Surrey, Canada. Officials have identified four suspects in connection with the crime, namely Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), Harkirat Jhutty (23) from Surrey, and Keilon Francois (20) from Ontario. The suspects have been formally charged with first degree murder.
Yuvraj Goyal, who arrived in the country in 2019 on a student visa, recently acquired Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) status. He held a position as a sales executive while his mother, Shakun Goyal, is a homemaker, and his father, Rajesh Goyal, owns a firewood business.
Shakun expressed her family’s shock at the incident and emphasized that her son had no known adversaries. She had visited Yuvraj in March and recounted their last conversation, where he informed her of his return from the gym and assured her he would call back later.
While seeking justice for their son, Shakun conveyed her frustration to The Indian Express, emphasizing that parents send their children to Canada with aspirations, not to receive their lifeless bodies in return.
Yuvraj Goyal completed his B.Com (Honors) degree at Delhi University before pursuing a master’s degree in finance in Canada. Prior to his relocation, he had worked in India for approximately two years. At the time of his tragic demise, he served as a sales executive at Basant Motors, a company based in Canada.
The Canadian government needs to acknowledge that this is not the first occurrence of such incidents happening on their soil. Measures must be taken to ensure that those who deliberately harm innocent people are held accountable. In Canada, there have been other tragic incidents where children have lost their lives. Ever since my son arrived in Canada in 2019, he never once had even a minor disagreement with anyone. Therefore, why was he specifically targeted? Is there anyone who can provide an explanation?” she inquired. Additionally, she expressed that her son was “immensely happy and well-established in White Rock, an upscale area in Surrey.”
The family of Mr. Goyal believes that the murder could potentially be a case of mistaken identity. “Based on information from local sources in Canada, it is possible that this was a case of mistaken identity. It is likely that someone else was the intended target, and unfortunately, Yuvraj was the one who lost his life. A thorough investigation is imperative in order to establish the truth,” stated Dr. Ranjana Sood, a relative.
The bereaved mother of Mr. Goyal expressed her inconsolable grief, stating, “Not only did he love his home country (India), but he also took his responsibilities as a citizen of Canada seriously. The Canadian government must provide answers as to why he met such a tragic end. How can someone ruthlessly take the life of an innocent man? Are there any explanations available?”
