In a recent development, the Chinese government has issued a strong warning to the United States regarding any actions that support Taiwan’s independence.
They have labeled such efforts as a futile endeavor that will only result in negative consequences. This statement was made in response to an unnamed US official’s call for Beijing to exercise restraint in the cross-strait situation. China firmly asserts that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory and has not hesitated to threaten the use of force to assert its control.
During a regular media briefing on Friday, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized the futility of Taiwan’s independence endeavors and highlighted their inevitable failure.
In addition, Wenbin dismissed any interference from the United States, firmly stating that “Taiwan is China’s Taiwan” and refuting any commentary on the matter from American officials.
Wenbin further explained that the root cause of the tensions across the Taiwan Strait is the attempt by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to seek independence with the support of the United States. He accused them of trying to use Taiwan as a pretext to contain China.
Wenbin emphasized that if the United States genuinely desires peace and stability in the region, it should unequivocally adhere to the One China principle and oppose Taiwan independence.
Simultaneously, Beijing implemented sanctions on three American defense companies due to their involvement in arms sales to Taipei, while also censoring any discussions regarding the inauguration on Chinese social media platforms.
“China will not tolerate any external force or any pretext that provides support to Taiwan. The righteous cause will receive support from all sides. In recent years, as well as in the past few weeks, numerous political figures from various countries have expressed their support for China’s just stance and its unwavering commitment to national sovereignty,” he further stated.
Wenbin also emphasized that endorsing Taiwan’s independence would lead to complications, and China remains resolute in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. They strongly oppose any attempts for Taiwan to become independent.
Following the inauguration of Taiwan’s President Lai Ching Te, China conducted a two-day military exercise surrounding the island nation, which it referred to as a “punishment” for what it deemed as “separatist actions,” as reported by CNN.
