Following the tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian, Ali Bagheri has been appointed as the acting Foreign Minister by Iran’s cabinet on Monday.
The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran released a statement announcing the appointment of Ali Bagheri as the Acting Foreign Minister. This decision was made after the unfortunate demise of Amirabdollahian, the energetic Foreign Minister of Iran, in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of the President and his entourage.
Earlier in the day, Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s Vice President, was appointed as the acting President. As per the Iranian Constitution, the Vice President is eligible to assume the role of President until new elections are held within 50 days.
Raisi, a hardliner who was often seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash near the Azerbaijan border.
State media reported the incident on Monday, and the wreckage of the helicopter, carrying Raisi and Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian, was discovered in mountainous terrain following a search operation aided by Turkish drones.
Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed Raisi’s passing in a heartfelt statement on social media, which was also echoed on state television. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose authority encompasses crucial matters such as foreign policy and Iran’s nuclear program, swiftly reassured the nation that despite the loss, the affairs of the state would continue without interruption.
