Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan convened in Dhahran to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza and work towards finalizing a comprehensive bilateral agreement, as per the Saudi state news agency.
During the meeting, they reviewed the “near-final version of the draft strategic agreements between the two nations, which are in the final stages of completion,” according to an official statement.
The Saudi leader and President Joe Biden’s chief security advisor also deliberated on the importance of establishing a viable path towards a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, as well as halting the hostilities in Gaza and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, the statement added.
Reports from Reuters earlier this month indicated that the Biden administration and Saudi Arabia have been in discussions to solidify an agreement on U.S. security assurances and civilian nuclear support, while a potential Israel-Saudi normalization pact as part of a broader Middle East diplomatic initiative remains unresolved.
In a statement released on Friday, the White House announced that Sullivan would be embarking on visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel to engage in discussions on bilateral and regional issues, with a focus on Gaza and endeavors to establish enduring peace and stability in the area.
