Tel Aviv, May 2 (IANS) Hamas has expressed its desire for a permanent end to the war during the ongoing indirect mediatory talks with Israel in Cairo.
The group has conveyed its concerns about a temporary ceasefire and emphasized the need for a total cessation of hostilities.
Hamas has also highlighted the importance of rehabilitating displaced Palestinians who have moved from north Gaza to the southern region following the outbreak of the conflict.
Sources from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office have indicated that Hamas is not in favor of a temporary ceasefire.
Mediators had proposed a six-week ceasefire along with the release of at least 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for around 600 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Israeli officials have adjusted their demands following requests from mediating countries such as Qatar and Egypt.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed American Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Israel is prepared to attack Rafah and has already deployed IDF units in the area.
The Defense Ministry sources in Israel have stated that Hamas must provide a response to the mediators by Thursday regarding their stance on the hostages.
