Vladimir Putin has unveiled a collection of American and British tanks in Moscow, showcasing vehicles seized on the frontline in Ukraine as a symbol of Russian military strength.
Among the various vehicles on display in the Russian capital, the British Saxon armoured personnel carrier, reportedly provided to Ukraine in 2015, was particularly noticeable.
These tanks were exhibited under red banners declaring “Our victory is inevitable”.
This exhibition is part of a month-long display in Moscow, featuring an American Bradley tank, a Swedish CV90, and a French-made AMX-10RC armoured fighting vehicle, all captured during the conflict in Ukraine.
The purpose of Putin’s showcase is to parade these armoured vehicles, some adorned with British and US flags, as a celebration of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The exhibit coincides with Moscow’s Red Square Victory Day Parade on May 9, an annual event commemorating Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
Putin has traditionally utilized this day to deliver passionate speeches, often criticizing Western powers and framing Russia’s actions in Ukraine as part of its historical ‘battle against fascism’.
Ukraine has expressed its disapproval of Russia’s justification for its aggression, considering it as an effort to rationalize their actions.
Additionally, Russia has encountered difficulties in Ukraine, with a substantial loss of tanks during the conflict. Nevertheless, the Russian military has been reinforcing its frontlines with reserves and augmenting defense expenditures.
Furthermore, there has been a separate occurrence where militants targeted a police checkpoint in the North Caucasus region of Russia, leading to the unfortunate demise of two officers and injuries to four more.
This incident follows a previous attack, emphasizing the prevailing security concerns in the area.
