Hezbollah carried out an attack last night by firing a series of Katyusha rockets at an Israeli army headquarters in northern Israel. The tensions between Israel and Iran have played a significant role in Hezbollah’s actions. Hezbollah, an armed group based in Lebanon, receives both financial and military support from Iran.
A statement released by Hezbollah confirmed the rocket attack on the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the 91st Division at Ein Zeitim Base. They claimed to have launched numerous Katyusha rockets during the attack.
According to Lebanon‘s official National News Agency (NNA), the attack was a response to Israeli incursions into southern Lebanese villages. Recent strikes on Srifa, Odaisseh, and Rab Tlatin were reported as the main reasons behind Hezbollah’s retaliation.
In response to the rocket launches from Lebanon, the Israeli military identified approximately 35 rockets fired into the Ein Zeitim area. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The Israeli forces retaliated by targeting the sources of the rocket fire.
Both sides have suffered casualties since the beginning of the hostilities. In Lebanon, news agency AFP reported that at least 376 people, mostly Hezbollah fighters, have been killed, along with 70 civilians. On the Israeli side, 10 soldiers and eight civilians have lost their lives.
The tensions between Israel and Iran have reached a critical point, with Iran issuing a stern warning in response to recent provocations. Nasser Kanaani, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, cautioned that any further actions by Israel deemed as a “mistake” would trigger a stronger and more decisive response from Iran.
Kanaani also addressed the recent incidents near Isfahan, where explosions were heard, believed to be an Israeli strike. He condemned the attack as “vexatious and malicious” and highlighted that Iran’s air defense successfully thwarted the assault, which involved a small flying object and micro air vehicle.
On Sunday, a military installation in Syria, housing a coalition led by the United States, was targeted by rockets launched from northern Iraq. The coalition, engaged in the fight against jihadist groups, responded by taking out a launcher in self-defense after reports of an unsuccessful rocket strike near a base in northeastern Syria. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by US personnel during this incident.
As Israel observed the beginning of Passover, protests erupted against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the 133 individuals held captive by Hamas in Gaza. Yesterday, hundreds of people gathered outside Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence, demanding action to secure the release of the hostages.
Meanwhile, tensions have risen on university campuses in the US due to protests against the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. At Yale University, several arrests were made in connection with these demonstrations. Additionally, at Columbia University, a significant number of protesters established a “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the campus lawns. Unfortunately, some Jewish students at this esteemed New York institution reported feeling intimidated and experiencing instances of anti-Semitism during these protests.
The attack launched by Hamas against Israel on October 7 resulted in the tragic loss of 1,170 lives. In response, Israel’s retaliation has claimed the lives of at least 34,151 people in the Gaza Strip, predominantly women and children.
