Iran’s air defense system was activated this morning in response to alleged missile and drone strikes by Israel. According to ABC News, Israel launched a missile at an Iranian airport. Local media reported a loud explosion in Isfahan.

State media in Iran reported the activation of the air defense system in multiple cities after explosions were heard near Isfahan. Isfahan province houses several Iranian nuclear sites, including Natanz, which is crucial to Iran’s uranium enrichment program. Iran’s Tasnim news agency assured that the nuclear facilities in Isfahan were “completely secure”.
While some media outlets claimed missile launches, Iran stated that they had successfully downed several drones and there had been “no missile attack so far”.
Israel’s military declined to comment on the reported blasts in Iran, according to AFP.
Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport was closed to all flights, as indicated in a notice to airmen on a US Federal Aviation Administration database.
Certain Emirates and Flydubai flights altered their routes away from Iranian airspace following the reported incidents.
Israel had previously warned of retaliation after Iran’s missile and drone attacks over the weekend, most of which were intercepted.
The recent strike followed an attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, which was widely attributed to Israel.
