The United States has expressed its backing for reforms within United Nations bodies, such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), as stated by Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department during a press briefing held on Wednesday.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, mentioned that the US is in favor of reforms within United Nations institutions, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
India’s aspiration for a permanent seat on the Security Council has been a longstanding endeavor aimed at better representing the interests of the developing world. This pursuit has garnered increasing support from the international community.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is comprised of 15 member states, with five permanent members possessing veto power and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms.
The five permanent members of the UNSC consist of China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and the United States. The non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council are elected by the UNGA for two-year terms.
