Oppenheimer clinched seven Oscars at the 2024 Oscars Award ceremony, which included the prestigious ‘Best Picture’ award, ‘Best Director’, and ‘Best Actor’. The biographical film about the inventor of the atomic bomb received nominations in 13 categories.
Shot with a budget of $100 million, “Oppenheimer” did not hold back on expenses and went against the recent trend of smaller independent films dominating the Oscars.
Cillian Murphy was honored with the ‘Best Actor’ award for his role in Oppenheimer, while Christopher Nolan received the ‘Best Director’ award.
Nolan expressed his gratitude by saying, “We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think that I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”
This marked Nolan’s first film to win the best picture award, following his acclaimed works such as “The Dark Knight” Batman trilogy, “Inception,” and “Memento.”
In addition to the major awards, Oppenheimer also secured Oscars for Robert Downey Jr (Best Supporting Actor), Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing.
The three-hour historical drama revolving around science and politics, “Oppenheimer,” defied expectations by becoming a box office success, grossing $953.8 million.
Cillian Murphy, who had collaborated with Nolan on five previous films, portrayed the lead role, with Robert Downey Jr playing his enigmatic rival, Lewis Strauss.
Both actors were recognized with the best actor and best supporting actor awards during the ceremony.
