The sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have made a heartfelt and urgent request for “proof of life,” expressing their concerns that “something irreversible” may have occurred to their father, who has been incarcerated since August 2023.
In light of growing speculation about the imprisoned leader’s health and wellbeing, Kasim Khan, one of the former Prime Minister’s sons, characterized the family’s lack of information as a violation of human rights.
In written statements, Kasim criticized the authorities’ silence, indicating that the uncertainty has inflicted deep emotional distress.
“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured, or even alive constitutes a form of psychological torture,” Kasim remarked, as reported by Reuters.
The family, which includes Kasim and his brother Suleiman Isa Khan, residing in London with their mother Jemima Goldsmith, asserts that they have had no verifiable contact with the former Prime Minister for several months, disregarding a court ruling that permits weekly visits.
“At present, we possess no verifiable information regarding his condition. Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being concealed from us,” he emphasized, highlighting the necessity for pressure from “every direction” to guarantee his father’s safety.
These concerns arise as Khan, 72, continues to serve extensive prison sentences resulting from cases such as the Toshakhana graft case, the alleged disclosure of a diplomatic cable, and charges associated with the Al-Qadir Trust—convictions he has consistently labeled as politically motivated following his ousting in 2022.
PTI senator claims ‘deal’ pressure
Despite the family’s alarming warnings, a senior member of Khan’s own party provided reassurance that the leader is alive, while simultaneously alleging significant political pressure.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Khurram Zeeshan informed news agency ANI that the former Prime Minister is alive but is currently facing efforts to compel him into political exile.
