Germany seeks to create a collaborative German-Israeli cyber research center and enhance cooperation between the intelligence and security agencies of both nations.
Germany is aiming to establish a collaborative cyber research center with Israel and enhance the partnership between their intelligence and security agencies, stated Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Sunday.
Germany regards Israel as one of its closest European allies, and Berlin has increasingly sought Israeli defense expertise to bolster its military capabilities and NATO involvement in light of growing concerns regarding threats from Russia and China.
“Relying solely on military defense is insufficient to address the challenges of this new security era. A significant enhancement in civil defense is equally crucial to strengthen our overall defense strategy,” Dobrindt remarked during his visit to Israel, as reported by Bild newspaper.
Dobrindt, who assumed office last month under the new Chancellor Friedrich Merz, arrived in Israel on Saturday.
According to the Bild report, Dobrindt introduced a five-point initiative aimed at establishing a “cyber dome” for Germany as part of its national cyber defense strategy.
In the meantime, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder on Sunday called for the acquisition of 2,000 interceptor missiles to equip Germany with an “Iron Dome” system inspired by Israel’s short-range missile defense capabilities.
