On Friday, Pakistani security forces neutralized six terrorists during an intelligence-led operation in the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by the news agency PTI, referencing the military’s media division.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) indicated that the operation took place in the Ghulam Khan Kalay region of North Waziristan district, prompted by intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists.
“During the operation, our forces effectively targeted the Khwarij stronghold, resulting in the elimination of six Khwarij,” the ISPR stated.
Additionally, the statement noted that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased terrorists, who had been implicated in assaults on security personnel and the murder of innocent civilians.
“A sanitization operation is currently underway to eradicate any remaining Khwarij in the vicinity, as Pakistan’s security forces remain resolute in their commitment to eradicate the threat of terrorism from the nation,” the ISPR added.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their “successful operation” in North Waziristan.
“We will persist in our fight against terrorism until it is completely eradicated from our country,” the prime minister was quoted as stating.
I, together with the entire nation, extend my heartfelt tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their steadfast commitment to safeguarding our homeland.
President Asif Ali Zardari released a separate statement affirming the continuation of operations against Fitna-al-Khwarij, emphasizing that “the entire nation stands united against terrorism.”
The Interior Ministry recognized the efforts of the security forces in executing the operation.
“The commendable actions of the security forces in promoting peace are noteworthy,” stated the ministry on X. “The nation is united with the security forces in the fight against Kharijite terrorists.”
Since the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group violated a tenuous ceasefire with the government in 2022, there has been a rise in terror attacks.
On Monday, security forces eliminated 10 terrorists during an intelligence-led operation in the Khyber district, according to the military’s media wing.
As reported by the ISPR, troops initiated the operation in Bagh late Sunday night following intelligence regarding terrorist activities. The statement noted that the forces “effectively engaged” the terrorists at their location, leading to the demise of all 10.
A recent security assessment by the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies indicated that terror attacks in 2024 have surged to levels comparable to those observed in 2014.
While terrorists no longer hold specific territories as they did in 2014, the report cautioned that insecurity in certain regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remains “alarming.”
