Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced significant criticism from the Bibas family, following the recent return of the remains of three family members by Hamas.
Ofri Bibas, the sister-in-law of Shiri Bibas—who perished in Hamas captivity alongside her two young sons—expressed her outrage towards Netanyahu, urging him to “shut up” after he disclosed details regarding the murders of Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir, contrary to the family’s wishes.
On the eve of the funeral for her nephews and sister-in-law, Ofri Bibas condemned the dissemination of such information, labeling it as “abuse for its own sake of a family that has endured 16 months of torment and still faces the worst ahead,” in a post on Facebook.
Reports indicate that Netanyahu shared harrowing details about the deaths of Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas while displaying their photograph during a speech over the weekend.
Following this address on Sunday, the Bibas family issued a cease and desist letter to Netanyahu and various government offices, demanding that they refrain from publicizing information regarding the murders of Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas, as reported by the Ynet news site.
Additionally, the family released a statement through the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, urging the media to “cease adding details regarding the fact that Shiri and the children were murdered by their captors.”
A month after the kidnapping of the Bibas family, Hamas claimed that the children and their mother had died in an Israeli airstrike. However, Israel rejected this assertion, stating that intelligence evaluations and forensic examinations of the Bibas children’s remains indicated they were intentionally killed by their captors.
On Tuesday, Shiri and her two sons were laid to rest in a single casket as the Bibas family mourned the loss of their three loved ones.
