Iran has reported that the Israeli air strikes targeting military installations resulted in “limited damage,” following Israel’s announcement that it had “completed” its operation and issued a warning against any potential retaliation.
The Israeli Defense Forces conducted strikes on military sites within Iran shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday (22:30 GMT on Friday), citing a response to what they described as months of assaults by “Iran and its proxies” in the region.
Subsequently, the Israeli military declared that it had “completed” the strikes and had “achieved its objectives.”
In a statement, Iran’s air defense headquarters confirmed that military bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan, and Tehran were targeted, but asserted that the attacks were “successfully countered.”
“While some areas sustained minor damage, the full extent of the incident is still under investigation,” the statement noted.
Additionally, Iran expressed its preparedness to respond to any acts of “aggression” from Israel, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, which cited sources indicating that “there is no doubt that Israel will encounter a proportional reaction for any actions it undertakes.”

He stated that Israel “has both the right and the obligation to respond.”
Israel’s reaction had been anticipated following Iran’s missile attack earlier in October, during which approximately 200 missiles were directed at Israel, resulting in one fatality in the occupied West Bank.
Iran claimed that this assault was a response to recent attacks that resulted in the deaths of leaders from the Lebanese group Hezbollah, the Palestinian group Hamas, and the Iranian military.
US calls Iran to break ‘cycle of fighting’
In the aftermath of the Israeli assaults, the United States called on Iran to halt its attacks on Israel in order to disrupt the ongoing cycle of violence.
“We call on Iran to stop its assaults on Israel so that this cycle of conflict can conclude without further escalation,” stated Sean Savett, spokesman for the US National Security Council, during a press briefing.
He noted that Israel’s response was a measure of self-defense, deliberately avoiding civilian areas and concentrating exclusively on military objectives, in stark contrast to Iran’s attacks, which targeted Israel’s most densely populated city.
Emphasizing that the US was not involved in the military operations, he remarked, “Our goal is to promote diplomacy and reduce tensions in the Middle East.”
The relationship between Israel and Iran has become increasingly strained following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Since that time, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 42,847 individuals and left 100,544 injured in Israel’s military campaign against Gaza.
Concerns have grown regarding the potential for a regional conflict involving Iran and the US, particularly in light of Israel’s escalating military actions against Hezbollah, which have included airstrikes on Beirut and ground operations since last month.
