Hezbollah’s deputy leader has asserted that the Lebanese militant group is prepared to confront an Israeli ground offensive, despite the recent deaths of its leader and several senior commanders. Sheikh Naim Qassem stated on Monday that Israel has not diminished Hezbollah’s military capabilities, delivering a message of resilience during a public address. He emphasized that, despite the challenges faced during the recent bombardment of Lebanon, the Iran-affiliated group remains committed to its fight. Qassem noted that Hezbollah’s operations have maintained their intensity, and even increased, following the death of leader Hassan Nasrallah on Friday. He mentioned that a new leadership will be established soon through “internal mechanisms,” although he did not provide further specifics on the selection process. “We are fully prepared for a ground incursion if the Israelis choose to proceed,” he asserted. Qassem reiterated that Hezbollah will pursue its primary objectives, undeterred by Israel’s attempts to instigate chaos through aggression and civilian massacres in Lebanon. He condemned Israel’s actions, stating, “Israel is perpetrating massacres across all regions of Lebanon, leaving no home untouched by its aggression.” He accused Israel of targeting civilians, including ambulances, children, and the elderly, rather than engaging with combatants. Additionally, Qassem highlighted the role of the United States, which he described as a “partner with Israel” through its extensive military support—culturally, politically, and financially. He concluded his video message with a declaration of confidence, stating, “We will prevail, just as we did in our confrontation with Israel in 2006.”
