On Monday, President Biden for the first time labeled Donald Trump as a “convicted felon” following the former president’s conviction related to hush money in his Manhattan trial.
During a fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut, Biden accused Trump of running for president because he fears losing his freedoms. Addressing his supporters at the residence of former HBO CEO Richard Plepler, Biden stated, “For the first time in American history, a former president who is a convicted felon is now seeking the office of the presidency.”
Although the Biden campaign had previously referred to Trump as a “convicted felon” after the guilty verdict on 30 May, the president had refrained from using this term until now.
Biden expressed concern over the potential threat of a second Trump term, highlighting Trump’s relentless attack on the American justice system. He emphasized that Trump’s intentions seem more alarming now as he aims to seek retribution for his 2020 loss and subsequent legal troubles.
Stressing on the impact of Trump’s loss in 2020, Biden remarked, “Something snapped in him when he lost in 2020. He can’t accept he lost and it is literally driving him crazy. He is clearly unhinged.”
Biden also suggested that Trump, after his criminal convictions, is now fretting about safeguarding his freedoms. This fundraising event comes in the wake of Trump’s substantial campaign contributions post the guilty verdict.
Reportedly, within 24 hours of the judgment, the Trump campaign amassed around $53 million in donations, with a significant portion from first-time donors. Both the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign together claimed to have raised $141 million in May for Trump’s third presidential campaign.
“Crooked Joe Biden will do anything to distract from Hunter’s trial and the fact his family has raked in tens of millions of dollars from China, Russia and Ukraine,” he said. “The Biden Family Criminal Empire is all coming to an end on 5 November, and never again will a Biden sell government access for personal profit.”
