Donald Trump is contemplating the possibility of appointing Tesla CEO Elon Musk as an advisor to the White House as the 2024 Presidential elections approach, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
While the details are still being ironed out, Trump and Musk have been in talks about how the Tesla executive could offer “official input” on matters such as the border, the economy, and voting irregularities.
Musk, the third wealthiest individual globally, and Trump have recently started to establish a relationship. The WSJ report mentioned that the two converse on the phone “multiple times a month.”
Furthermore, Musk and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz have discussed with Trump a campaign Musk launched in November to persuade corporate leaders not to back President Biden, as per the report.
Musk, the creator of SpaceX and the owner of the social media platform X, has publicly expressed his opposition to Biden and has previously stated that he would not financially support any candidate.
The South African-born billionaire, who became a US citizen in 2002, has maintained an impartial position. As detailed by The Wall Street Journal, he met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago after Trump’s successes on Super Tuesday, cementing his status as the presumptive Republican nominee.
In a mysterious post in March regarding the US presidential elections, Musk declared that he had no intentions of contributing money to either candidate. On X, he stated, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.”
Historically, Musk has made contributions to both Republicans and Democrats, similar to numerous other business leaders. According to The New York Times, unlike many American billionaires, he has not heavily funded a presidential campaign and has evenly divided his donations between the two parties.
Trump and Biden are gearing up to compete in the presidential elections set for November this year. Biden is grappling with domestic concerns and foreign policy dilemmas, particularly the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Meanwhile, Trump is facing multiple legal challenges.
