On May 22, Nikki Haley expressed her intention to vote for Donald Trump in the general election.
Speaking at an event held at the Hudson Institute in Washington, Ms. Haley, who previously served as Trump’s U.N. ambassador, emphasized the need for Trump to put in effort to win the support of those who had backed her during the primary campaign.
While affirming her support for Trump, Ms. Haley also stressed the importance of him reaching out to the millions of people who had voted for her and continued to support her.
She urged Trump not to assume that these voters would automatically side with him and expressed her genuine hope that he would make the effort to connect with them.
Although Haley had withdrawn from the race for the GOP nomination two months earlier, she had not immediately endorsed Trump. During the primary, both candidates had engaged in sharp criticism of each other.
