An Indian woman named Payal, residing in Punjab, received a generous cash gift from her husband on their wedding anniversary.
She decided to take a chance and purchased a raffle draw ticket, which turned out to be a life-changing decision. Payal won the grand prize of $1 million at the recent Dubai Duty Free (DDF) Millennium Millionaire draw by selecting the ticket number 3337 in the DDF series 461, which she bought online on May 3.
As reported by the Khaleej Times, Payal has been purchasing DDF tickets for the past 12 years, always sticking to her lucky number three. She would buy a ticket whenever her family visited Dubai, including her children’s and husband’s names.
Payal is currently contemplating how to utilize the money, with her main priorities being securing her children’s future, assisting her brother in Australia, and contributing to her community.
Initially in disbelief, Payal was overjoyed when she received the call from DDF organizers informing her of the win. She first shared the news with her mother-in-law, who was with her at the time, and later informed her husband, Harnek Singh. Payal expressed her happiness by saying, “I was so happy and tears of joy rolled out as I spoke to him.”
Reflecting on her win, Payal mentioned, “The money I used to purchase the winning ticket was a gift from my husband, who gave me Dh1,000 on our 16th wedding anniversary. I decided to buy a DDF ticket online with that money, choosing the one with the most number 3s. While I used to buy DDF tickets once or twice a year at the airport, this time I made an exception by buying online. It was truly a gift that kept on giving, as the cash gift from my husband made us millionaires.”
The woman disclosed her intentions for the money, stating, “It is premature to make a decision at this point. However, our main focus is to ensure a bright future for my children by providing them with a quality education. Additionally, I wish to assist my brother who resides in Australia and engage in charitable activities within our Punjabi community.”
