The government of Singapore is closely monitoring a recent surge in Covid-19 infections within the country, as the number of weekly cases has almost doubled.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health on Saturday, the estimated count of Covid-19 cases increased from 13,700 in the previous week to 25,900 in the week ending May 11.
During this period, the average daily hospitalizations due to Covid-19 rose from 181 to approximately 250, as reported by the ministry.
In response, public hospitals have been instructed to limit non-urgent elective surgeries and transfer suitable patients to other healthcare facilities in order to preserve hospital bed capacity.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung stated that the nation is currently experiencing the early stages of this wave of infections, with the number of cases steadily rising.
He further mentioned that the peak of this wave is anticipated to occur within the next two to four weeks, specifically between the middle and end of June, as disclosed in a news report by the Straits Times.
