LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demanded action against a trio of retired Supreme Court judges who had removed him from office before the 2018 elections.
The PML-N supreme leader has consistently called for accountability of those who allegedly played a role in his ouster. However, this time he did not demand action against former generals, Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed.
Last year in September, before his return to Pakistan from self-imposed exile in London, it was reported that PML-N would not seek accountability of the former army chief and ex-spymaster in order to maintain good relations with the establishment.
During a party general council meeting in the provincial capital, Nawaz Sharif stated that he will continue to raise the issue of his disqualification by the Supreme Court.
He questioned the authority of the judges to remove him from the position of party president, stating that nowhere in the world do judges send a prime minister or president home. He referred to a court order that barred him from remaining the PML-N president due to his disqualification under Article 62 and 63.
According to Nawaz Sharif, it is unjust for three individuals to disqualify a prime minister for not taking a salary from his son. He expressed his intention to keep asking this question and called for an independent investigation into his ouster in 2017.
The PML-N leader criticized three former judges, including former chief justice Saqib Nisar, Ijazul Ahsan, and Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. He demanded action, claiming to possess an audio clip of ex-CJP Nisar allegedly saying “we have to oust Nawaz to bring in Imran Khan as the premier.”
Furthermore, he called for a NAB case to be initiated against Justice Naqvi for allegedly acquiring “illegal” assets. He also stated that a case should be lodged against Justice Mazahar Naqvi for accumulating significant assets, along with other judges involved in his ouster.
