The Indian Embassy in Iran confirmed that five of the Indian sailors on board an Israeli-linked vessel seized by Tehran were released on Thursday.
It was further mentioned that the sailors left the country in the evening.
Details of their release were shared by the Indian Embassy, which also expressed gratitude to the Iranian authorities for their efficient coordination with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas.
In a statement made on social media, the Indian Embassy in Iran noted, “Five Indian sailors from MSC Aries were released and departed from Iran this evening.
We are grateful for the cooperation of the Iranian authorities with our Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas.”
The cargo ship, which had connections to Israel, was seized by Iran on April 13 with a total of 17 Indian nationals onboard.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy of Iran captured the container ship near the Strait of Hormuz, and the MSC Aries was sighted for the last time on April 12 as it was moving towards the Strait of Hormuz near Dubai.
On April 18, one of the 17 Indian sailors was released and made his way back to his home in Kerala.
Upon her arrival from Iran, Ann Tessa Joseph, a resident of Thrissur, was warmly received by government officials at the Cochin International Airport.
