At least two Palestinians have been reported dead and seven wounded due to an Israeli military operation in the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm on the West Bank, as stated by the Palestinian health authority on Saturday.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that the operation commenced on Friday and was ongoing into Saturday. The IDF stated that their forces were responding to armed adversaries who had fired upon them and attacked with explosives.
According to the IDF, four soldiers sustained injuries ranging from light to moderate.
Reports from Palestinian media mentioned four additional casualties, including the local Islamic Jihad commander. However, these deaths have not been officially confirmed as Nur Shams remains under IDF blockade.
Several Palestinians have been arrested, and significant damage has been inflicted on roads, healthcare facilities, and residences.
Since the October 7 attacks initiated by Hamas from the Gaza Strip, nearly 450 Palestinians have lost their lives in the West Bank, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry. The majority of these casualties occurred during IDF operations, while others were a result of attacks on Israelis.
In response to a rocket attack on Sderot from the Gaza Strip, the IDF targeted rocket launch sites in Beit Hanoun in the north, conducting numerous sorties against various locations in Gaza.
Furthermore, air raid sirens were activated along the northern border of Israel with Lebanon, signaling a potential threat from the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.
